Thief's Magic
Thief's Magic I randomly read about and thought it seemed interesting so I added it to my library requests. Then I saw the request a few weeks later and had no memory of it. I think I found where it was first listed and here's the description that intrigued me:
The first book in a new series! It's an alternate world where the industrial revolution was powered by magic, and an archeology student unearths a sentient book called Vella. And elsewhere, a girl has been taught that using magic is wrong - but she has amazing gifts.
I think it was the magic industrial that got me. What isn't explained in the summary, but you find out early on is that there are many different worlds, and the two stories above take place in different places and do not crossover. Maybe they will in a later book.
I did like the use of magic in both worlds. In the industrial revolution one, magic is being used up too quickly and the people are trying to look for other sources, a nice, if a bit heavy handed to today's environmental problems.
Overall I did like the book, but I think I would've preferred to have one of the stories than two unconnected ones. I may read the next book, but I think I'll wait for reviews than just jumping on it.
