This book did serve as a good bridge between Gathering Blue and The Giver (spoilers for both to follow).
We met the blue-eyed leader of Kira's dad's village and while his name isn't given (other than Leader), it's heavily hinted that's it's Jonas from The Giver. Although, it could be the baby he smuggled away since they both had the blue eyes. Hopefully the next book will answer that question.
I did like getting back into that world and having the clear tie to the last book. The book itself was felt too short and I have more questions now than ever. Again, I'm banking on Son to answer at least some of them. It's about 3x the length :)
