All You Need Is Kill
I read this in anticipation of the Edge of Tomorrow movie coming out this week. I'm really not a Tom Cruise fan, but this movie looked really good (and I do like Emily Blunt). I found it was based off a book and decided to pick it up to read prior to seeing the movie.
For some reason, I had it in my head that the book was a manga, not prose. I think it was based off the cover, japanese author, and its length. I got a nice surprise when I glanced through it after getting it from the library and not seeing any pictures.
This actually would be a great manga, but definitely worked as a novel as well. It's about a soldier who during a battle with aliens, finds out that he is stuck in a time loop. No matter what he does, he keeps waking up the day before the battle. Then he dies. Repeat.
If you like sci-fi with aliens and time travel, I highly recommend this book. While the movie seems like it will deviate a fair amount with Tom Cruise playing what is in the book a young Japanese soldier, Emily Blunt's character looks like she'll be similar to her book counterpart, who is nicknamed the Full Metal Bitch.
