The Blade Itself

The Blade Itself - Joe Abercrombie

The Blade Itself is good. But again it was one of those series that I have difficulty getting into for one reason or another. I did get through it. I think I will continue the series (also it's all on my kindle).

It's more of a gritty dark fantasy series than your typical epic fantasy. I enjoyed the writing and world-building (though I need a map). There's a decent cast of characters but they do not fall into cliches and I found I was able to keep them straight even when I put the book down for a week or two.

I'm interested to see where the series will go, since this book seemed more like the opening introduction to the series and while there was forward movement with the plot, I have a feeling it will pale in comparison with the next two books.
