My Most Anticipated Books of 2014 and other decisions

I saw a bunch of these posts and decided to join in. In general, my goal for the year is to really put a dent in my owned not read pile of books. On goodreads, which is fairly accurate, I have 246 books shelved. I want to get that to under 100 by the end of the year. In particular, I want to finish a bunch of series that I have started. I think I did a decent job by the end of the year, but I can do better.

The series I plan on finishing:

  • Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth: I read the first book years ago, and last year read the next three, I have two books left and I will read them
  • Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini: I acknowledge the series isn't great, but I have decided to finish it. The last one is on my kindle from the library and I will read it.
  • Dragon Prince and Dragon Star series by Melanie Rawn: Read up to the first Dragon Star book many years ago. I will finish the series, but at this point I need to reread the first four :)
  • Coldfire Trilogy by C. S. Friedman: I picked up the trilogy because I liked the cover of the last book. I did read the first one and liked it but never finished. I recently picked up the whole series on audiobook and Black Sun Rising is next on my to listen list.

For my most anticipated releases:

  • Winds of Winter by George R. R. Martin: I can wish :)
  • Secret and Sacrifice by Brigid Kemmerer: The final two books in the Elemental series which I love. I'm still hoping on novellas for Chris and Gabriel.
  • Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop: Loved Written in Red and I can't wait for this one.
  • Cress by Marissa Meyer: I love the first two books and this has been getting great reviews as well.
  • The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski: One of the best reviewed releases and a gorgeous cover, I preordered this :)
  • The Emperor's Blades by Brian Stavely: Also saw some great reviews. He's actually doing a few signings near me in February so I may go pick up a copy then
  • Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor: Love the last one. Love the cover.
  • Ruins by Dan Wells: I've really enjoyed this series and want to see how it ends
  • Burned by Karen Marie Moning: I actually really liked Iced and want to see what's going to happen next.
  • UnDivided by Neal Shusterman: One of my favorite dystopians. Can't wait for the ending.

Also I have made a few decisions as to my online book database options. I gave up on shelving on booklikes. I may try start again, but for now I needed a clean slate. It just wasn't user friendly enough for me and it was getting difficult with three sites to track for.

I will continue to post reviews. I am still staying at goodreads. It's still the best site for tracking my reading, but I will not post reviews. I have a lot of groups there that I love and challenges I enjoy. I will also use leafmarks for cataloging, but I'm undecided about reviews for now. I may start moving them over but I'm a bit lazy.

Anyway, here's to 2014! I wish everyone lots of luck and happiness with their reading :)
