30 Day Book Playlist Challenge - Day 29

Talking To The Moon - Scott McElhaney

Day 29: Book that was all kinds of weird - good or bad (Stoner Rock)

Talking to the Moon was one of the books that made me stop downloading every free book I heard was good. The book is just weird. In this case more on the bad side. Boy accidently hurts his father or stepfather and goes through a friend's dad's time machine to get away. There are more weird parts, but the one that got me was its use of religion. It's not marketed as a Christian book. I even can't really call it a Christian book.

But when he goes to the past, he ends up staying with a family and starts going to church with them. Fine. But then at one point he's talking to someone and says, oh I go to church now. It's acted like, oh he goes to church now, that's such a good thing. There's no mention of why it's a good thing, or even how it betters him. But he goes to church.

I don't seek out christian books, but I have read some. It made no sense in the context of the book to have it. It had no bearing on the plot other than yay he goes to church. It was weird. After this I started reading the bad reviews first for books.
