30 Day Book Challenge - Day 14

Ella Enchanted - Gail Carson Levine, Eden Riegel The Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan

Day 14: Book turned into movie and completely desecrated

I haven't actually seen this movie. I did watch the trailer and later read the plot summary. Ella Enchanted is one of my favorites. I wanted to cry when I watched the trailer.

One thing that bugged me the most was for the ending and how she gets rid of her curse. In the book she breaks it herself by shear will because she knew if she married Char that she could be forced to harm him or his kingdom. In the movie (which also has an evil uncle trying to take over the throne subplot) she looks in mirror and orders herself to stop.

(show spoiler)

For worst I have seen, I will choose Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. I didn't actually read the book first. I happened to catch the movie on TV and decided to watch it. I thought it was okay, but had heard that it didn't follow the book closely and decided to give that a try later. The book was so much better.

My big issue with the movie is how they equated the underworld and Hades to hell and the Devil when they are completely different religious intrepretations of the afterlife. I was happy to see the book handled it correctly, along with the other Greek mythology features. I haven't seen the second movie (but have read the corresponding book this time) but I probably will still see it, if only for Nathan Fillion.
