The Mists of Avalon
Audiobook #7
Lucky #7! Although 7 is not a lucky number for me. I loved this book despite how long it was (51 hours, which I listened to at 1.25x)
Arthurian myths are not my strong point but I did read one book of tales in sixth grade and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight in 10th or 11th grade. On my own I read The Lost Years of Merlin series and The Dark is Rising series.
I've also seen some of the movie adaptations. My to-read list has a few other adaptations. After this book I do not know if I want to read any more Arthurian myths (well, maybe reread the two series). I am fairly content to have this to be my best known interpretation of those myths. Davina Porter is again an amazing narrator. I picked this up after listening to her reading of Outlander. When I saw that she had done the reading for this, which I have meant to read for many many years, I had to move it up the list. The story was familiar though I had not read any Arthurian literature for a while. I loved Bradley's interpretation of the myths and characters.
Even Gwenhwyfar who in a status update I said I hated, and I do to a point, was an amazing character. One I wanted to beat over the head/lock in closet/etc. When we read the book in sixth grade, our reading culminated in a mock trial to determine who was most at fault for Arthur's downfall. In 3/4 classes Gwenhwyfar was determined most guilty. I think my class was the only one who didn't have her as that. I think she was second most guilty.
(show spoiler)
Anyway, amazing book, so glad I listened to it. Davina Porter should narrate EVERYTHING.
