The Lifeboat

The Lifeboat - Charlotte Rogan

Another book that has been stuck on my list because of a different challenge. I realized a while ago that I didn't think I would like it but I still needed to and that may have affected my reading.

The book follows Grace Winter who was on the ship Empress Alexandria when it shipwrecked in 1914. She ended up on an overpacked lifeboat in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. When the story starts, she is in the US on trial with a few of the other members for murder.

The book jumps back and forth between the trial, her three weeks on the boat, and how she ended up on the boat with a brand new husband who had been engaged when they met. And I think he still was when they married. I was a bit unclear.

Grace is an unreliable narrator but I couldn't tell if it was say choice or her delusions during the three weeks. If she was delusional due to dehydration and starvation.

I could not get into this book and wasn't a fan of the narrator. I don't think I would read another from the author.
