Wonder

So this is my first reread review for Booklikes as an actual reread (so exciting!). I never actually wrote a review for this when I read it about two years ago. I did write a review for the Julian Chapters which came out earlier this year. Wonder was on sale shortly after and I wanted to reread it to compare. It was one of my favorite books when I first read it and it still holds up.
I do think RJ Palacio made the right choice when she did not include the Julian chapters. I think they work better on their own and it's more interesting to read the book not knowing where he is coming from.
I heard that they are actually making a movie out of this, which I am curious to see how they do it.
Wonder is about a boy named August (Auggie). He has a severe facial deformity. As he says, whatever you are thinking, it's probably worse. I would like to see in the movie that they keep that and we never see his face. I think it would be more effective than seeing what his face looks like.
Auggie has been homeschooled his whole life due to all his surgeries. His parents get the opportunity to send him to a good private school for fifth grade. Auggie is used to people staring at him, but school is a whole new experience. His first year is told through the eyes of him, his older sister who just started at a new high school where she won't be known as the deformed kid's older sister, the boy she starts dating, his former best friend, and a few students at his new school. If you haven't read this book I highly recommend it.
